Satellite TV and VSAT dish pointing angle calculator for South East Asia

Choose your wanted satellite in the box above.  Asiasat at 122 East longitude is just an example. There are other Asiasats at 105.5 east and 100.5 east orbit longitude.  Select which AsiaSat you want - or any other satellite such as ABS-7 at 116 east, or VINASAT-2 at 132 deg east etc.

Instructions for satellite TV and VSAT users: Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and in surrounding area.

To refine the accuracy, click on the plus sign + in the navigation boxes at the side of the map.  The scale will magnify so that you can home in accurately on your location. Repeat. Choose the Satellite or Street map version to see the satellite photo image of the ground or even your house !

Dish pointing (Azimuth and elevation mount):

Set the dish elevation angle first.   This is the up/down angle.  Use the elevation scale on the back of the dish.    Set the polarization or skew angle also. This involves either rotating the LNB or the entire dish assembly.  There may be a polarization rotation scale on the feed throat or behind the dish.   Facing towards the satellite, clockwise is positive.   Polarization must be set to 1 deg accuracy is possible to minimize interference into your dish. For the side to side azimuth bearing use a compass or just think where the sun is and the time of day and boldly swing the dish sideways.  The pole star tells you where north is.  Just use common sense. You should find the satellite on the first swing, then spend half an hour peaking up.  Peaking up is really important for long term service quality and minimum outage time during heavy rain.

Polar mount dish set up (Polar axis mount):

Only your latitude matters.   Set the polar mount main motor axis angle and the small downward tilt of the dish and with the motor central align the dish towards due south.   Motor rotation angles to the east are positive, to the west negative.

Detailed town names and roads are not yet shown in Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Brunei, Timor, Papua New Guinea and Philippines and other countries.  If you want a marker put in for your town please email me. Thailand, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Singapore have good road, town and city maps.

If you are interested in connecting to the internet via satellite from some remote place where you can't get good phone line (ADSL) or cable modem connection then follow the link at the top of this page where I have put details of some suggested satellite broadband service providers.

Disclaimer and Safety Warning:

The satellite dish calculations may be wrong.  The latitude and longitude are not intended for the blind navigation of aircraft, ship or for other vehicle purposes.   Magnetic azimuth bearings are approximate. Use is entirely at your own risk.  Apply common sense and don't believe every number that comes out of a computer system.  Take care with dish pointing to not injure others by dropping tools or hurting yourself by falling down.  Use GPS as an alternative.
